If Ram, Shyam and Anwar can do a piece of work in 12,15 and 20 days. How long will they take to finish it. if they work together?

Solution

$\because$ The time taken by Ram to finish the work $=12$ days

$\therefore$ Ram's 1 day's work $=\frac{1}{12}$

$\because$ Time taken by Shyam to finish the work $=15$ days

$\therefore$ Shyam's 1 day's work $=\frac{1}{15}$

$\because$ Time taken by Anwar to finish the work $=20$ days

$\therefore$ Anwar's 1 day's work $=\frac{1}{20}$

$\therefore \quad(\mathrm{Ram}+$ Shyam $+$ Anwar $)$ 's 1

day's work $=\frac{1}{12}+\frac{1}{15}+\frac{1}{20}$

$$=\frac{5+4+3}{60}=\frac{12}{60}=\frac{1}{5}$$

$\therefore$ Time taken by them to finish the work, if they work together

$$=\frac{1}{\frac{1}{5}}=5 \text { days; Ans. }$$
