Fossils : Those residuals of living and plants which are accumulated at place and their signs are printed on rocks are known as fossils.

Fossils are the remains of the pre-historic animals or plants buried under the earth, millions of years ago.

e.g. coal, petroleum etc.

Usually only the hard parts (bones, shells etc,) are so preserved, but occasionally remains of organism having no hard parts have been recognised.
