Cell : The cell is the basic structural and functional unit of all living organism. It is the smallest unit of life and also known as the building block of life.

  • Each cell performs some metabolic functions which are essential to remain alive.
  • It takes in nutrients, convert these nutrients into energy, carry out specialized functions, and reproduce as necessary.
  • In 1665, an English scientist named Robert Hook discovered the cell with the help of microscope.
  • Later on in 1838-39, a German scientist Schleiden and Schwann developed the cell theory.
  • According to the cell theory ; cell are the structural and function unit of all living organism.
  • The cell theory was proposed in 1838-39 by Schleiden and Schwann.
