 1. The distance travelled by a moving body is the actual length of the path covered by the body, irrespective of the distance.

 1. The displacement of a body is the shortest distance between the initial and the final positions of the body.
 2. Distance travelled is a scalar quantity. 2. Displacement is a vector quantity.
 3. Distance travelled is always positive. negative or zero. 3. Displacement may be positive.
